RESUMO

The excessive accumulation of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) in the environment poses a risk to environment and human health. In the present study, a potassium bicarbonate-modified pyrite/porous biochar composite (PKBC) was prepared in a one-step process and applied for the efficient removal of Cr(VI) in wastewater. The results showed that PKBC can significantly remove Cr(VI) within 4 h over a wide range of pH (2-11). Meanwhile, the PKBC demonstrated remarkable resistance towards interference from complex ions. The addition of potassium bicarbonate increased the pore structure of the material and promoted the release of Fe2+. The reduction of Cr(VI) in aqueous solution was primarily attributed to the Fe(II)/Fe(III) redox cycle. The sulphur species achieved Fe(II)/Fe(III) cycle through electron transfer with iron, thus ensuring the continuous reduction capacity of PKBC. Besides, the removal rate was also maintained at more than 85% in the actual water samples treatment process. This work provides a new way to remove hexavalent chromium from wastewater and demonstrates the potential critical role of potassium bicarbonate and sulphur.

RESUMO

The development of information technology has created conducive conditions for the digital economy. The digital economy is regarded as a critical pathway for transforming traditional economic models. Green total factor productivity serves as an indicator for assessing the quality of economic development. During pivotal periods of economic transition, the digital economy and green total factor productivity have emerged as two prominent themes for achieving sustainable economic development. But the impact of digital economy on green total factor productivity is less discussed. Innovation environment refers to a confluence of conditions shaped by factors such as talent, funding, cultural atmosphere and government policies, all of which collectively support innovative activities within a region. The institutional environment encompasses the aggregate of economic, political, social, and legal rules. Currently, there is little discussion on bringing innovation environment and institutional environment into the impact of digital economy on green total factor productivity. To fill the research gap, this paper adopts the Slack based measure-Directional distance function model and Malmquist-Luenberger productivity index to measure green total factor productivity in each region based on the panel data collected from 30 provinces in China from 2004 to 2019. Generalized Method of Moments method is constructed to carry out an empirical study on the impact of digital economy on green total factor productivity. This paper constructs a panel threshold model with innovation environment and institutional environment as threshold variables. In further analysis, this paper employs panel quantile regression for the empirical analysis of the impact of the digital economy on green total factor productivity. Further analysis elucidates the evident disparities in the influence of the digital economy on green total factor productivity at various levels. The research results can provide a guide for discussing the green value of the digital economy and its role in fostering the development of a green economy.

RESUMO

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) complicated with preeclampsia can lead to polyhydramnios, ketosis. Herein, we explored that CPEB4 in cancer progression of preeclampsia and its underlying mechanism. All the serum samples were collected from patients with preeclampsia. These was the induction of CPEB4 in patients with preeclampsia. The serum of CPEB4 mRNA expression was positive correlation with Proteinuria, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure in patients. The serum of CPEB4 mRNA expression was also negative correlation with body weight of infant in patients. The serum of CPEB4 mRNA expression also was negative correlation with GPX4 level and GSH activity level in patients. The serum of CPEB4 mRNA expression was positive correlation with iron content in patients. CPEB4 gene inhibited trophoblast cell proliferation. CPEB4 gene promoted trophoblast cell ferroptosis by mitochondrial damage. CPEB4 gene induced PFKFB3 expression by the inhibition of PFKFB3 Ubiquitination. PFKFB3 inhibitor reduced the effects of CPEB4 on cell proliferation and ferroptosis of trophoblast cell. Taken together, the CPEB4 promoted trophoblast cell ferroptosis through mitochondrial damage by the induction of PFKFB3 expression, CPEB4 as an represents a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of preeclampsia or various types of GDM.

RESUMO

Organic polymers hold great potential in photocatalysis considering their low cost, structural tailorability, and well-controlled degree of conjugation for efficient electron transfer. Among the polymers, Schiff base networks (SNWs) with high nitrogen content have been noticed. Herein, a series of SNWs is synthesized based on the melamine units and dialdehydes with different bonding sites. The chemical and structural variation caused by steric hindrance as well as the related photoelectric properties of the SNW samples are investigated, along with the application exploration on photocatalytic degradation and energy production. The results demonstrate that only SNW-o based on o-phthalaldehyde responds to visible light, which extends to over 550 nm. SNW-o shows the highest tetracycline degradation rate of 0.02516 min-1, under 60-min visible light irradiation. Moreover, the H2O2 production of SNW-o is 2.14 times higher than that of g-C3N4. The enhanced photocatalytic activity could be ascribed to the enlarged visible light adsorption and intramolecular electron transfer. This study indicates the possibility to regulate the optical and electrical properties of organic photocatalysts on a molecular level, providing an effective strategy for rational supramolecular engineering to the applications of organic materials in photocatalysis.

RESUMO

Breast cancer-related transcript 1 (BCRT1), a lncRNA that is overexpressed in several human cancers, facilitates the progression of breast cancer and osteosarcoma. Nevertheless, the function of BCRT1 in cervical cancer (CC) still remains unknown. In this study, BCRT1 was significantly overexpressed in CC tissues and correlated with the advanced stage of CC patients. BCRT1 depletion dampened CC cell proliferation, and drives cell apoptosis and cell cycle inhibition. Mechanistically, BCRT1 bound miR-432-5p and negatively modulated miR-432-5p's expression in CC cells. Reduced miR-452-3p expression was observed in CC tissues and exerted tumor suppressive function in CC cell growth. Further mechanism study revealed that CCR7 was clarified as a target of miR-432-5p and was inhibited following BCRT1 depletion. CCR7 transfection could recover CC cell growth that was suppressed with BCRT1 down-regulation. These results revealed the novel function of BCRT1/miR-432-5p/CCR7 pathway in CC, suggesting BCRT1 might be a potential biomarker and target for CC treatment. RESUMO

Catalysts for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation are appealing in the purification of organic wastewater. Singlet oxygen (1O2) is widely recognized as a crucial reactive species for degrading organic contaminants in catalysts/PMS systems due to its adamant resistance to inorganic anions, high selectivity, and broad pH applicability. With the rapid growth of studies on 1O2 in catalysts/PMS systems, it becomes necessary to provide a comprehensive review of its current state. This review highlights recent advancements concerning 1O2 in catalysts/PMS systems, with a primary focus on generation pathways and identification methods. The generation pathways of 1O2 are summarized based on whether (distinguished by the geometric structures of metal species) or not (distinguished by the active sites) the metal element is included in the catalysts. Furthermore, this review thoroughly discusses the influence of metal valence states and metal species with different geometric structures on 1O2 generation. Various potential strategies are explored to regulate the generation of 1O2 from the perspective of catalyst design. Identification methods of 1O2 primarily include electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), quenching experiments, reaction in D2O solution, and chemical probe tests in catalysts/PMS systems. The principles and applications of these methods are presented comprehensively along with their applicability, possible disagreements, and corresponding solutions. Besides, an identifying procedure on the combination of main identification methods is provided to evaluate the role of 1O2 in catalysts/PMS systems. Lastly, several perspectives for further studies are proposed to facilitate developments of 1O2 in catalysts/PMS systems.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the predictive value of the abdominal wall scar score for pelvic floor function rehabilitation, vaginal microecology and complications after cesarean section. Methods: A total of 120 pregnant women who underwent cesarean section in our hospital from January to December 2022 were selected. The patients were divided into observation group (score ≥ 60, n = 52) and control group (score < 60, n = 68) according to the preoperative score of abdominal wall scar and whether the score exceeded 60. The pelvic floor function rehabilitation, vaginal microecology and complications were compared between the two groups, and the score of abdominal wall scar was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The predictive value of pelvic floor function rehabilitation, vaginal microecology and complications after cesarean section was evaluated. Results: There were significant differences between the two groups in postpartum class I and class II muscle fiber strength and pelvic floor muscle potential (P < 0.05). ROC curve showed that the AUC of abdominal scar score in predicting pelvic floor function rehabilitation was 0.806 (95% CI [0.684-0.927]), the specificity was 80.17%, and the sensitivity was 79.76%. There was significant difference in the abnormal rate of leukocte estrase (LE) and Acetylaminoglucosidase (NAG) between the two groups (P < 0.05). ROC curve showed that the AUC of abdominal scar score in predicting vaginal microecology was 0.871 (95% CI [0.776-0.966]), the specificity was 85.09%, and the sensitivity was 82.36%. There was significant difference in the incidence of postpartum complications between the two groups (P < 0.05). ROC curve showed that the AUC of abdominal scar score in predicting complications was 0.844 (95% CI [0.735-0.953]), the specificity was 82.27%, and the sensitivity was 81.15%. Conclusion: The abdominal scar score has a certain effect on predicting the recovery of pelvic floor function, vaginal microecology and complications after cesarean section. Therefore, it can help the medical staff to adjust the treatment measures in time, which can be used as a means of preoperative auxiliary examination.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Arsenic (As) exposure is one of the risk factors for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). This study aimed to explore the effect of As-exposure on DNA methylation in GDM and to establish a risk assessment model of GDM in As exposed pregnant women. METHOD: We collected elbow vein blood of pregnant women before delivery to measure As concentration and DNA methylation data. Then compared the DNA methylation data and established a nomogram. RESULT: We identified a total of 10 key differentially methylated CpGs (DMCs) and found 6 corresponding genes. Functions were enriched in Hippo signaling pathway, cell tight junction, prophetic acid metabolism, ketone body metabolic process, and antigen processing and presentation. A nomogram was established that can predict GDM risks (c-index = 0.595, s:p = 0.973). CONCLUSION: We found 6 genes associated with GDM with high As exposure. The prediction of the nomograms has been proven to be effective.

RESUMO

Although water metalloid pollution is widely studied, the effect of the combined pollution of organic matter and metalloids in mining water and, especially, the possible interaction mechanisms between metalloids and flotation reagents, are both poorly understood. Existence of mixed pollution of metalloids and organic compounds tends to cause more serious harm to natural organisms. In this study, a synergistic removal of arsenite (As(III)) and butyl xanthate (Bx) in an advanced oxidation system was reported using biochar-based catalyst loaded with nano-zero-valent iron from an inexpensive iron source (iron slag) to activate peroxodisulfate. The removal efficiencies were improved by 30 % in the co-existence of As(III) and Bx compared to those of the single pollutant. The theoretical calculations, especially frontier molecular orbital theory, revealed the generation of [AsO2-OH]•- by the combination of As(II) with •OH. This [AsO2-OH]•- participated in the oxidative degradation of Bx with high activity and combined with the sulfur falling off Bx after the reaction to form a novel Fe-As-S complex as indicated by X-ray absorption +fine structure analysis. Overall, this study reports the generation of low-valent arsenic active substances of [AsO2-OH]•- and their effect on the removal of organic pollution containing S atoms in advanced oxidation systems under typical mining water conditions with the coexistence of As(III) and expands the understanding and application of traditional free radicals.

RESUMO

Purpose: Surgical site infection (SSI) is a rare and serious complication of total knee arthroplasty (TKA), which causes a poor prognosis for patients. The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of intraosseous (IO) antibiotics in preventing infection and complications after TKA compared with intravenous (IV) antibiotics and to provide a certain theoretical basis for clinical treatment. Methods: The review process was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. We searched the PubMed, Embase, Ovid, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases about trials on IO antibiotics (into the proximal tibia before skin incision) to prevent infections in TKA from the respective inception dates to September 30, 2022. The infection occurred within 3 months after surgery. Both researchers individually screened the studies in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, performed the literature quality evaluation and data extraction, and used Stata 17 software for data analysis. Results: Five studies that enrolled 3801 patients were included in this meta-analysis. The results showed that IO antibiotics were effective in reducing the incidence of SSI (OR: 0.25, P = 0.001) and periprosthetic joint infections (OR: 0.16, P = 0.004) relative to IV. Moreover, the percentage of infection due to Gram-positive bacteria (OR: 0.18, P = 0.025) was reduced in the IO group compared with that in IV group, but Gram-negative bacteria levels were not significantly reduced (P = 0.14). There was no difference between the two groups for other systemic adverse effects of the drug. Conclusions: IO antibiotics in TKA are safe and effective alternatives to IV antibiotics. Large randomized clinical studies comparing infection rates and related complications with IO and IV antibiotics are required.

RESUMO

Impaired invasion of EVTs results in inadequate remodelling of arteries and poor placentation, leading to PE. TMBIM4 was found to promote the migration and invasion of human osteosarcoma U2-OS and breast cancer MCF7 cell lines. However, the effect of TMBIM4 on trophoblast biological behaviour and its relevance to PE pathophysiology remain unclear. In this study, we confirmed that TMBIM4 was highly expressed in cytotrophoblasts, syncytiotrophoblasts, and EVTs of the human placenta during early pregnancy. By comparing the expression levels of TMBIM4 in the placenta of women with normal-term pregnancy and PE, TMBIM4 was found to be significantly decreased in PE. Thereafter, we determined the expression of TMBIM4 in the LPS-treated first-trimester human trophoblast cell line HTR-8/SVneo (mimicking a PE-like cell model), and determined the effect of TMBIM4 on trophoblast function and its underlying mechanism. LPS treatment reduced the expression of TMBIM4 and induced NLRP3 inflammasome activity in HTR-8/SVneo cells. KO of TMBIM4 in the HTR-8/SVneo cell line impaired cell viability, migration, and invasion, which was more severe in the LPS/ATP-treated TMBIM4-KO cell line. Moreover, TMBIM4 deficiency enhanced NLRP3 inflammasome activity and promoted subsequent pyroptosis, with or without LPS/ATP treatment. The negative relationship between TMBIM4 expression and NLRP3 inflammatory activity was verified in PE placentas. Inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome with MCC950 in HTR-8/SVneo cells alleviated LPS/ATP-induced pyroptosis and damaged cell function in the TMBIM4-KO cell line. Overall, this study revealed a new PE-associated protein, TMBIM4, and its biological significance in trophoblast pyroptosis mediated by the NLRP3 inflammasome. TMBIM4 may serve as a potential target for the treatment of placental inflammation-associated PE.

RESUMO

Residual flotation reagents in mineral processing wastewater can trigger severe ecological threats to the local groundwater if they are discharged without treatment. Metal-free biochar-induced persulfate-advanced oxidation processes (KCBC/PS) were used in this study to elucidate the degradation of aniline aerofloat (AAF) - a typical flotation reagent. In KCBC/PS system, AAF can be removed at low doses of catalyst (KCBC, 0.05 g/L) and oxidant (PS, 0.3 mM) additions with high efficiency. The analysis revealed the dominance of O2•- among the identified reactive oxygen species (ROS), which achieved deeper mineralization for the AAF degradation in the KCBC/PS system. The role of the electron transfer mechanism was equally important; the importance was corroborated by the chemical quenching experiments, electron spin resonance (ESR) detection, probe experiments, and electrochemical analysis. It benefited from the electron transfer mechanism in the KCBC/PS system and exhibited a wide pH adaptation (3.5-11) and high resistance to inorganic anions for real mining wastewater treatment. Combined with theoretical calculations and other analyses, the carbonyl group was deemed to be the active site of the non-radical pathway of biochar, while the site of the conversion of SO4•- to superoxide radicals by biochar activation represented a defect. These findings revealed a synergistic effect of multiple active sites on PS activation in biochar-based materials. Moreover, the intermediate degradation products of AAF from mass spectrometry indicated a possible pathway through the density functional theory (DFT) method, which was effective in reducing the environmental toxicity of pollutants for the first time according to the T.E.S.T software and seed germination experiments. Overall, our study proposed a novel modification strategy for cost-effective and environmentally friendly biochar-based catalysts, while also deepening our understanding of the mechanism of activation of persulfate by metal-free carbon-based materials.

RESUMO

The objectives of this study are twofold. Firstly, the current study elucidates the impact and efficacy of food labels in developing consumers' attitudes and intentions towards the selection of nutritional food. Secondly, the inefficacy of labels in developing consumers' attitudes and intentions towards healthy packaged food selection is demonstrated. The supportive theories of the current model are those of reasoned action and protection motivation. The data of 797 respondents have been collected from four major grocery stores in Pakistan. The structural equation model has been employed for the analysis of data. The results indicate that the efficacy of food labels has a positive significant effect on attitudes towards familiar and unfamiliar foods. In contrast to this, inefficacy in labelling has shown a positive significant effect on familiar foods but is insignificant for unfamiliar foods. The user-friendly food labels significantly affect unfamiliar foods in terms promoting consumer attitudes. Reciprocally, the inefficacy of labels creates a hindrance to the reading of unfamiliar labels while purchasing food items. The study findings reveal the fact that food label information and its format influences consumer attitudes and intentions at the point of purchase.

RESUMO

There are numerous studies concerning the impacts of widespread microplastic pollution on the ecological environment, and it shows synergistic effect of microplastics and co-exposed pollutants in risk enhancement. However, the control methods for removing harmful pollutants from microplastic surface to reduce their ecological toxicity has rarely been explored. In this paper, magnetic graphitized biochar as a catalyst is shown to achieve 97% removal of tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) from microplastics by biochar mediated electron transfer. The changes in the surface and structure of microplastics caused by various aging processes affected the pollutant attachment and subsequent removal efficiency. After chlorination, the highest disinfection by-product (DBP) generation potential was observed by the group of microplastics attached with TBBPA. The oxidation system of biochar activating peroxodisulfate (PDS) can not only reduce the kinds of DBPs, but also greatly reduce the total amount of detected DBPs by 76%, as well as reducing the overall toxicity. This paper highlights an overlooked contribution of pollutant attachment to the potential risks of DBP generated from natural microplastics during chlorination process, and provides the underlying insights to guide the design of a biochar-based catalyst from wastes to achieve the removal of TBBPA from microplastics and reduce the risks and hazards of co-contamination.

RESUMO

To explore the association of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) with maternal and neonatal adverse outcomes among women with advanced maternal age. This retrospective cohort study included 1551,140 eligible pregnant women from the National Vital Statistics System database in 2017 to 2019, and all participants were divided into two groups: GDM group (n = 154,646) and non-GDM group (n = 1396,494). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to assess the association of GDM and maternal and neonatal outcomes; additionally, we also adopted subgroup analysis to analyze the association in detail based on gestational weight gain (GWG) levels. The risk of each adverse outcome was presented by using odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). After adjusted some covariables, GDM increased the risk of neonatal assisted ventilation (OR = 1.380, 95% CI: 1.345-1.417), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU, OR = 1.436, 95% CI: 1.410-1.463) admission, neonatal low Apgar score at the fifth minutes (OR = 1.034, 95% CI: 1.018-1.051), neonatal high birth weight (OR = 1.132, 95% CI: 1.111-1.153), neonatal premature birth (OR = 1.244, 95% CI: 1.223-1.266), mothers entered intensive care unit (ICU, OR = 1.247, 95% CI: 1.107-1.406), and mothers took cesarean section (OR = 1.193, 95% CI: 1.180-1.207) among women with advanced maternal age. The study findings indicated that GDM was the risk factor for obstetric outcomes among women with advanced maternal age, which will have important implications for the management of GDM in women with advanced maternal age.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A significant proportion of women with preeclampsia (PE) exhibit persistent postpartum hypertension (PHTN) at 3 months postpartum associated with cardiovascular morbidity. This study aimed to screen patients with PE to identify the high-risk population with persistent PHTN. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study enrolled 1,000 PE patients with complete parturient and postpartum blood pressure (BP) profiles at 3 months postpartum. The enrolled patients exhibited new-onset hypertension after 20 weeks of pregnancy, while those with PE superimposed upon chronic hypertension were excluded. Latent class cluster analysis (LCCA), a method of unsupervised learning in machine learning, was performed to ascertain maternal exposure clusters from eight variables and 35 subordinate risk factors. Logistic regression was applied to calculate odds ratios (OR) indicating the association between clusters and PHTN. RESULTS: The 1,000 participants were classified into three exposure clusters (subpopulations with similar characteristics) according to persistent PHTN development: high-risk cluster (31.2%), medium-risk cluster (36.8%), and low-risk cluster (32.0%). Among the 1,000 PE patients, a total of 134 (13.4%) were diagnosed with persistent PHTN, while the percentages of persistent PHTN were24.68%, 10.05%, and 6.25% in the high-, medium-, and low-risk clusters, respectively. Persistent PHTN in the high-risk cluster was nearly five times higher (OR, 4.915; 95% confidence interval (CI), 2.92-8.27) and three times (OR, 2.931; 95% CI, 1.91-4.49) than in the low- and medium-risk clusters, respectively. Persistent PHTN did not differ between the medium- and low-risk clusters. Subjects in the high-risk cluster were older and showed higher BP, poorer prenatal organ function, more adverse pregnancy events, and greater medication requirement than the other two groups. CONCLUSION: Patients with PE can be classified into high-, medium-, and low-risk clusters according to persistent PHTN severity; each cluster has cognizable clinical features. This study's findings stress the importance of controlling persistent PHTN to prevent future cardiovascular disease.

RESUMO

Arsenic is one of the most common and harmful pollutants in environment throughout the world, especially in aqueous solutions. In this study, two kinds of industrial solid wastes (Oxide scale (OS) and Blast furnace slag (BFS)) and one kind of phytoremediation plant waste (Ramie stalk) were used to prepare an environmentally friendly, low-cost, and efficient calcium silicate coated nano zero-valent iron (nZVI)/biochar composite (BOS) for As(V) adsorption. The potential environmental risks of BOS and their effects on removal of arsenic ions from aqueous media were investigated. The adsorption mechanism was explored and discussed based on XRD, SEM-EDS, XPS, etc. The results suggested that the environmental risk and heavy metals toxicity in BOS by co-pyrolysis were significantly reduced compared to the original materials, and no additional contaminant was observed in the subsequent experiments. Simultaneously, the BOS showed excellent As(V) removal capacity (>99%) and regenerative properties. The As(V) removal mechanisms are mainly ascribed to the complexation and co-precipitation between Fe and As, and the hydrogen bond between CO functional group of BOS and As. The mechanism of enhanced nZVI activity for As(V) removal was revealed. A protective layer of Ca2SiO4 was formed on the surface of nZVI during the co-pyrolysis process to prevent the passivation of nZVI. During the reaction process, the Ca2SiO4 covering the nZVI surface would be continuously detached to expose the fresh surface of nZVI, thus providing more redox activity and adsorption sites. This study provides a new way to treat and recycle industrial steel solid wastes and phytoremediation plant wastes, and the produced calcium silicate coated-nZVI/biochar composite is proposed to be a very promising material for practical remediation of As(V)-contaminated water bodies.

RESUMO

Biochar can achieve multiple benefits including solid waste management, polluted water remediation, carbon sequestration, and emission reduction. However, various environmental factors (such as temperature variations and dry-wet alternation) and microbial activity may lead to the fragmentation, dissolution, and oxidation of biochar. These accelerate the dissolution of biochar-derived dissolved organic matter (DOM) and then influence disinfection byproducts formation potential (DBPFP) throughout the water treatment process. In this paper, biochars from six biomass feedstocks with five aging processes were prepared, and the DBPFP of biochar and its derived DOM were first studied systematically. Different aging processes might increase the DBPFP of biochar by increasing DOM content and changing the fraction distribution of DOM derived from biochar. Especially, the DBPFP of biochar increased apparently with the chemical aging process. Coexisting with the environmental concentration of humic acid, even aged biochar showed the potential to reduce DBPFP and integrated toxic risk value of the mixed system. In this study, the DBPFP of biochar-derived DOM during the disinfection process is confirmed, and the results can give information to the selection of biomass feedstocks of biochar and its service life in the water treatment process.

RESUMO

Polluted stormwater (PSW) treatment is becoming increasingly important because of the existence of multiple pollutants from non-point pollution sources. Alfalfa biochar loaded with Mg/Fe layered double hydroxide (AF-LDH) was successfully synthesized to remove trace metal(loid)s from stormwater. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms of metal(loid)s in a mono-component system and the reusability of the composite materials was investigated in this study. The result showed that the maximum removal efficiency for Pb(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), As(V), and Cr(VI) were 98.98 %, 98.11 %, 97.88 %, 97.71 %, 98.81 %, and 50.89 %, respectively, when added calcined AF-LDH (AF-LDO) composite material to the multi-component solution. The AF-LDH and AF-LDO could efficiently remove trace pollutants (10-100 µg/L) from multi-component solution, especially for AF-LDO, which could completely remove the tested six trace metal(loid)s. Furthermore, Fourier transform infrared spectra and X-ray diffraction characterizations supported the Mg/Fe layered double hydroxide reconstruction. The main mechanisms of Pb(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) (cationic metals) removal were ion exchange and surface precipitation, whereas As(V) and Cr(VI) (anionic metals) were mainly dislodged through the formation of surface complexation, electrostatic attraction, and interlayer anion exchange, concerning the -OH and -COOH of AF-LDH. Importantly, the results of the column experiment demonstrated that AF-LDO was superior to AF-LDH for anionic metal removal from stormwater. In this study, we synthesized AF-LDH and AF-LDO for trace metal(loid) removal and proposed a new and practical approach for stormwater purification.

RESUMO

Tax payments stimulate business enterprises to choose tax management through tax avoidance activities, which is the legal practice to reduce the amount of tax payable. In developing economies, taxation is considered more critical for budget and revenues of a country. This paper investigates whether various business strategies influence corporate tax avoidance decisions of firms by adopting business strategies. Besides, it explores how gender diversity can ease this relationship. This study has chosen a sample of organizations from non-financial sector in Pakistan. The time frame is 5 years, including once a year. The present model employed a generalized moment method (GMM) and tested the proposed hypothesis to draw the results. The study has taken the size, leverage, and business profitability as control variables of firms. The study outcomes by using the GMM method demonstrate that the presence of female directors reduces tax avoidance behavior in prospector companies. This study provides insight into future research for stakeholders, government officials, tax authorities, and policymakers. The findings offer valuable recommendations and practical insights and implications. The findings provide future directions for research to test different frameworks to attain beneficial results to promote the responsibility of tax payment culture.
